Julia M. Duckwall Memorial Scholarship

When our colleague Julia Duckwall died in 2002, the AIR Board of Directors established the Julia M. Duckwall Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory and in honor of her. At the time of her death, she served on the Board of Directors as Professional Development Services Committee Chair.

The Julia M. Duckwall Scholarship is designed to facilitate the professional growth and development of individuals who work in institutional research and related fields.

If you are planning to attend an Institute, consider applying for the Julia M. Duckwall Scholarship. The scholarship pays for the Institute registration fee. Housing, travel costs, and meals (excluding those meals included in the registration fee) are not covered. Applicants must be AIR members, and must provide evidence of their ability to make a contribution to the field through research, teaching, or creative applications of institutional research. Scholarships may be awarded to two individuals attending each Professional Development Services Institute. The Institute Series includes Assessment Institute, Foundations I Institute, and Foundations II Institute.

The 2009 Institute Series application windows are now closed.

Application Criteria:

All applicants must be a current AIR member to apply for the Julia M. Duckwall Scholarship. During the application process you will be asked to submit a current vita, two references, two letters of recommendation and a 700 word-or-less, double-spaced essay.
