AIR Announces Release of New Book from Stylus Publishing, Co-published with AIR and AACU

  • by AIR

Tallahassee, Fla. – (July 13, 2017) – The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) announced today a new volume from Stylus Publishing, co-published with AIR and AAC&U. The new book, Enhancing Assessment in Higher Education: Putting Psychometrics to Work, is edited by AIR member Tammie Cumming and M. David Miller, with a Foreword by Michael J. Kolen.

This volume, due out soon, provides tools and approaches for assessing student learning outcomes in higher education.

The book is guided by the core purpose of assessment - to provide faculty, administrators, and student affairs professionals with the information they need to increase student learning by making changes in policies, curricula, and other programs.

The book suggests that assessment and accountability are now inescapable features of the landscape of higher education, and that ensuring these assessments are psychometrically sound has become a high priority for accrediting agencies and therefore for higher education institutions as well. As such, the book focuses on how to practice sound assessment, bringing together higher education assessment literature and psychometric literature.

The book is divided into three sections: overview, assessment in higher education, and case studies, and includes a glossary of key terms in the field.

AIR members receive a discount off the book's cover price. Members of the general public may purchase the book here.
