Job dutiesBennington College seeks an Assistant or Associate Director of Institutional Research to join its institutional research and assessment program.

The Assistant/Associate Director of Institutional Research will serve as the primary custodian for institutional data at Bennington, and is responsible for performing regular and ad hoc research projects related to a wide range of functions and activities. The Assistant/Associate Director will administer, analyze, and report on results from campus-wide surveys; support assessment activities related to student learning and success; and coordinate the collection of data required for external agencies or reports. In each of these areas, the Assistant/Associate Director will have a key role in coordinating matters of data quality and governance, ensuring that institutional data is consistent, accurate, and complete. Finally, the Assistant/Associate Director will have a prominent role in the development, deployment, and maintenance of the systems and structures required for a robust institutional research program, with a special emphasis on longitudinal databases that integrate data from multiple sources.

The ideal candidate will bring a passion and natural curiosity for data to a growing portfolio of research initiatives designed to support and enable a dynamic, individualized academic program. The Assistant/Associate Director will work in the Provost and Dean’s Office, and will collaborate most closely with the Dean of Research, Planning, and Assessment and with the Registrar and Director of Enrollment Services; but will work with colleagues from across the College in the collection and management of institutional data, and in the design and implementation of various institutional research projects. Title commensurate with experience.
QualificationsThis position requires impeccable attention to detail, exceptional quantitative and analytic skills, and a keen understanding of how research can inform decision making. Other qualifications include:

- Bachelor’s degree in a research-oriented field, including coursework and/or prior direct experience with statistics
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience
- Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel and/or other statistical packages (SPSS, R, SAS, etc)
- Strong presentation and communication skills (to include work with PowerPoint or Keynote)
- A demonstrated ability to manage and manipulate large datasets
- Experience in database development is strongly preferred
- While prior experience in education is preferred, we welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds
