Summary:

The Director, Institutional Research & Effectiveness, provides strategic leadership, vision and direction for a holistic institutional research program to support the University's mission and strategic goals. Leads the development and maintenance of a comprehensive institutional research and effectiveness program. Serves as the primary guardian of institutional data for the university and performs or oversees analyses to support institutional decision-making. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, collecting, analyzing, and disseminating a wide range of data and reporting related to Stevenson's overall operations and effectiveness. Develops, analyses, and prepares required federal, state, regional, and ad hoc reports for submission, and serves as the institution's Keyholder with the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS ). Knowledge of the MSCHE's new standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation process, including the evaluation and assessment of institutional effectiveness.

Job dutiesEssential Functions:

Ensure compliance with all federal, state and other external reporting requirements and ensures accuracy of the data submitted. This includes, but is not limited to, reporting for MSCHE, IPEDS, and other related government agencies.
Lead or collaborate in institutional and specialized program accreditations.
Work closely with the EVPAA/Provost and with administration, faculty, and staff in preparing reports – including providing research and writing – for state and federal accrediting agencies, as well as specialized accrediting agencies.
Organize and implement the systematic collection, analysis, and retention of data and research relating to the University for the purposes of planning and informing strategic decisions.
Manage and coordinate an institutional effectiveness program that includes ongoing assessment and planning in support of data-informed decision-making processes.
Provide analysis to allow alignment of program outcomes and activities in an annual cycle of continuous improvement that informs planning, budgeting, and assessment.
Provide evidence in support of the strategic planning process and provides appropriate data and trend analysis for environmental scanning.
Develop methods for gathering and analyzing data regarding learning outcomes and student and institutional characteristics, area demographics, community needs assessments, student enrollment, student transfer, retention and attrition studies, institutional effectiveness and the effectiveness of various instructional and research methodologies. Identify both institutional and environmental strengths, challenges, trends and opportunities.
Assist with faculty-based assessment efforts in curriculum development and student learning outcomes.
Responsible for research methodologies, collecting and organizing information, performing statistical analyses, interpreting research results, and writing reports.
Ensure that meaningful, appropriate and accurate data and supporting documentation is available to meet the decision-making needs of the University.
Assist with the development, implementation, monitoring, and revision of policies and procedures relating to the institutional research and effectiveness functional area.
Maintain a current data set for the University, creates and distributes an annual institutional Fact Book, and develops an archive for historical data.
Respond to appropriate publications and survey requests from external constituencies.
Lead in conducting institutional studies, cost evaluation, and effectiveness of academic programs.
Compile and report on benchmark data about peer institutions.
Perform research on general trends and provides comparative analyses of Stevenson versus peer and aspirant institutions.
Develop and maintain data dashboards and presentations for senior administrators and governance bodies.
Work collaboratively with other university stakeholders regarding research needs.
Verify internal consistency and accuracy of reports developed through the research process.
Serve on the University’s CORE Users Group Committee, the University’s Institutional Review Board and other committees as appropriate.
QualificationsEducation/Experience:

Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in data analytics, the social sciences, applied mathematics, computer science, statistics or a related field, and a minimum of ten years of experience in a higher education setting. Minimum of two years’ experience using Ellucian Colleague required.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability:

Thorough knowledge of advanced research methodology, including qualitative and quantitative techniques, and expert skills with data management and query tools.
Experience with the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS ) and National Center for Education Statistics (NCES ) reporting and survey tools and requirements.
Expertise with descriptive and analytical data analysis using Excel, Access, SPSS , SAS , R, Stata, or other data analysis programs.
Fluency in the use of Ellucian Colleague and Informer reporting tools.
Fluency with survey data development, collection and analysis software, and data presentation tools including Microsoft Office Suite Programs.
Knowledge of MSCHE and other accreditation organizations’ expectations.
Advanced knowledge of current practices in institutional research, including ethical use of data and privacy requirements.
Advanced skill level in proactive problem solving, accuracy and attention to detail.
Exceptional time management with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
High standard of integrity to handle confidential student and employee information appropriately.
Excellent organization, interpersonal, analytic, customer service, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to take initiative; work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues across the institution.
Knowledge of laws, codes, regulations, and pending legislation related to institutional assessment, research, planning, and accreditation.
Ability to understand, adapt, and apply trends in higher education research, data management, and policies within institutional settings.
Knowledge of advanced statistical theories and principles.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Ability to travel between campuses.

Physical Requirements:

Light work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move object. Talking, hearing, keyboarding, repetitive motions of the wrists and fingers. Close visual acuity. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Able to manage stress in a useful, constructive manner.
