AIR offers opportunities for continuing education through a variety of face-to-face events, workshops, and other training opportunities. From IR basics, to applied statistics, to IPEDS training, these opportunities allow IR professionals to learn in a group setting, often alongside colleagues from a variety of educational backgrounds.
Annual Conference (AIR Forum)
The AIR Forum is the world’s largest gathering of higher education professionals working in institutional research, assessment, planning, and related postsecondary education fields. The four-day conference includes more than 300 presentations by colleagues from all sectors of higher education and an Exhibit Hall featuring the latest tools and resources to support data use for decision making. Conference attendance is an exclusive member-only benefit.
Workshops are one-day, face-to-face training sessions for IPEDS data providers and users. Workshops are provided at no charge to participants or the co-hosting organization. They are co-hosted by AIR and other higher education organizations and underwritten by the National Center for Education Statistics. AIR works through its educational partners and host facilities to provide training sessions at times and locations that meet the greatest needs and provide the most beneficial outcomes for its participants
Conference Workshops are interactive half- and full-day sessions offered in advance or after the AIR Forum, the Association's annual conference.
NCES Data Institute (NDI)
With support from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), AIR operates the NCES Data Institute: Using Federal Datasets to Support Research on Postsecondary Education. The Institute is an intensive introduction to NCES datasets and research methodologies using large-scale national data sources.
If you need more flexible training options, AIR also offers a number of online training/education opportunities.
