IPEDS Training

The IPEDS training, content, and tools offered by AIR in this section of the website are funded and approved by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

Workshops are one-day, face-to-face training sessions for IPEDS data providers and users. Workshops are provided at no charge to participants or the co-hosting organizations. They are co-hosted by AIR and other higher-education organizations and underwritten by the National Center for Education Statistics.

Online Video Tutorials provide survey component overviews, information on important IPEDS concepts and definitions, and demonstrate using IPEDS Data Tools to extract data.  The online video tutorials are produced by AIR and approved by the National Center for Education Statistics.
Online IPEDS Keyholder Courses are self-paced, mentor-supported, and designed to enhance IPEDS Keyholder knowledge. Courses are taken from the comfort of home or office and take approximately 10-12 hours to complete within a one-month period. Check back here in January for additional information regarding the 2 courses: Keyholder Essentials: A Beginner’s Guide (data providers with less than 9 months experience as keyholders) and IPEDS Keyholder Efficiencies:
Reducing the Reporting Burden (data providers with 10-24 months experience as keyholders). Note: Participants may only enroll in one course at a time.

IPEDS Educators are experienced IPEDS data providers and users who assist AIR in developing and delivering curriculum and workshops. All have been IPEDS Keyholders and/or Coordinators during their higher education careers and most currently hold these titles. Learn more about how to become an IPEDS Educator and the current cohort.
