The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) and the Assessment Network of New York (ANNY) are co-hosting an IPEDS Workshop for IPEDS Keyholders* in conjunction with the 2014 ANNY Annual Conference. Funding for this workshop is provided by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

This workshop features these training modules:

IPEDS Data as the Public Face of an Institution raises the level of awareness among higher education professionals about the importance of accuracy and consistency in data reported to IPEDS. Examples of real IPEDS data used in the public domain will be incorporated, enabling participants to understand how IPEDS data are used by governmental and non-governmental entities. This module includes presentations, discussions, exercises and demonstrations utilizing IPEDS data tools and resources.

IPEDS Data and Benchmarking: Supporting Decision Making and Institutional Effectiveness is designed for participants with little to no experience in the area of conducting benchmarking studies or with the IPEDS Data Center. This module introduces the fundamentals of creating benchmarks to measure institutional effectiveness. The module provides an overview of the types of comparison groups that can be constructed using IPEDS data, with examples of appropriate use. Participants will use actual data from the IPEDS Surveys, Data Feedback Reports, and the Data Center. Exercises and resources will demonstrate processes to establish key performance indicators and identify variables to refine comparison groups.

Keith Brown retired from the North Carolina Community College System and state government on June 1, 2010 after 32 years of service. Currently Keith is working as a private consultant in the area of postsecondary education, with particular emphasis on data systems and data tools. Projects for which he is currently involved include serving as a member of the State Support Team (SST) for the State Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) grants program; facilitator of the Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) postsecondary stakeholders group; and Senior IPEDS Fellow for the Association of Institutional Research (AIR). He served as the IPEDS State Coordinator for the NC community colleges for 12 years and as an IPEDS Trainer for 10 years. Keith has been an active participant on numerous IPEDS Technical Review Panels for NCES.
 
Prior to joining the North Carolina Community College System Office, Keith was Dean of Special Projects and Research at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM). Included in the roles he served while at NCSSM were the State Director of the Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics Program and the Director of the Mathematics and Science Education Center at NCSSM. Mr. Brown has also served as faculty at the community college and the high school levels.
 
Dr. Kristina Cragg

Kristina Cragg is Associate Vice President of Institutional Research at Ashford University. Kristina provides leadership for federal and state reporting, as well as internal data analyses. Her higher education experience includes working in multiple states for public institutions/organizations throughout the country focusing on student success, which complements her role as an IPEDS Trainer. Kristina contributes to the field of higher education through presentations and publications; she is the co-editor of Organization and Administration in Higher Education.

This workshop is limited to 45 participants. Workshop seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Seat confirmations are delivered via email on a rolling basis approximately 3 business days after an online seat registration is submitted.
