Data and Decisions Academy

Data and Decisions® Academy courses provide self-paced, online professional development for institutional researchers. Hosted by the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), Academy courses build institutional research (IR) skills needed to support data-informed decision making.

Over 800 institutional research professionals have completed at least one Data and Decisions Academy course, with over 70% completing two or more. Completers are located in 48 U.S. states and 12 countries around the world.

Initial funding for the Data and Decisions Academy was made possible by a $1.92 million grant from Lumina Foundation for Education.

The Data and Decisions Academy is a series of online, self-paced courses designed for community college IR professionals. With an investment of approximately 25 hours, participants can complete an entire course and obtain a broader knowledge base of IR competencies.

Mentors are an integral part of the Data and Decisions Academy. They answer course-specific questions and provide feedback on completed exercises. Mentors are full-time institutional research professionals who understand the importance of practical, on-the-job training and are ready to help participants learn new skills.

The Academy offers seven, mentor-supported courses. Each course includes a series of papers, videos, exercises, and assessments on each core topic. Courses require approximately 25 hours of study time over a seven-week period:
