Gainful Employment Reporting:
Learn More with David Bergeron at the AIR 2012 Forum
Gainful Employment Reporting is an issue that has already required hours of effort for many IR professionals, and with new pieces of the regulations being implemented in July, 2012, it is important you and others on your campus have the most current information. The reporting and disclosure requirements of the Gainful Employment regulations are part of a larger effort by the US Department of Education to provide students and families with better information about the value of programs subject to the requirement they lead to gainful employment in recognized occupations. Institutions are required to report information about students who start and complete a program including costs, debt levels, graduation rates, and placement rates. With these new reporting and disclosure requirements, including the final Gainful Employment-Debt Measures scheduled to be effective July 1, 2012, questions are bound to arise.

If you are interested in learning more, arrive in time for the session led by David Bergeron, Assistant Director of the Office of Post-Secondary Education, at the 2012 AIR Forum, 3:30-5:45 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, June 3. Mr. Bergeron will provide a broad overview of the Department of Education’s new Gainful Employment reporting and disclosure requirements that his office is responsible for managing. Following his presentation, a panel of higher education professionals will discuss the impact of the regulations on different sectors of higher education.

Member Input Key to New Board Initiatives

By Jennifer Brown
2012 AIR President

First, thanks to a very hard working Nominations and Elections Committee for their great work this year under the leadership of Jim Trainer (immediate past president). Along with Jim, members Michelle Hall, Qing Lin Mack, Gary Pike, Phyllis Edamatsu, and Karen Webber reviewed a large number of nominations. They were happy to have so many eager to serve and had to make tough decisions about this year's candidates. MORE

Submissions go through a blind peer review process, culminating in the designation of one as "Best Paper." The award recipient is recognized at the next Forum, and is provided the opportunity to present their paper during a special session.

TECH TIPS

Using Graphics More Effectively in Word

My inspiration for Tech Tips comes from everyday "challenges" at work. This month, the office is writing various enrollment and other mandatory reports. I like to include graphics (tables/charts/pictures) in reports when appropriate to draw the audience to specific points.

When I asked a colleague to insert a graphic, they struggled with the formatting. Their struggle inspired me to share this Tech Tip. Not only does this tip cover adding graphics, but also positioning them for maximum impact. MORE
