IR and Key Performance Indicators: An Essential Relationship

AIR recently conducted a survey of members to determine institutions’ use of business intelligence (BI) and members’ roles in BI. The survey focused on four key areas: key performance indicators (KPIs), BI software, the changing IR role, and IR budgets.

AIR members reported that most higher education institutions are adopting key performance indicators (KPIs), and institutional researchers are leaders in the use of KPIs. 90% of respondents indicated that KPIs are important to their institutions, and 41% said KPIs originated in IR. MORE

BOARD CORNER

2014-2015 Board Ready to Go!
By Gayle Fink
2014-2015 AIR President
I’d like to begin my first Board Corner with a huge shout out to the AIR Executive Office staff, exhibitors and sponsors, presenters, and the many volunteers who made the 2014 Forum such an incredible success. This year’s Forum provided IR professionals with a variety of professional development opportunities and provided ample opportunities to share, network, learn, inspire and achieve. My thanks to all of you, the over 2,000 members who made the journey to support AIR.

The 2014-2015 Board begins its year by setting new goals (or “Ends”) for our Association. Once these goals are set, the AIR Executive Office is responsible for determining how to make these goals actionable. It is then the responsibility of the Board of Directors to monitor that the goals are being achieved through a series of reports throughout the year. MORE

SPECIAL FEATURE
X
Telling the Story Behind the Data
Natalie Solverson received the 2013 Edward Delaney Scholarship, awarded annually to one early career professional who has never attended the Forum. The criteria for the scholarship included writing an essay describing outcomes expected from participation at the Forum. We asked Natalie questions regarding those objectives and the outcomes achieved over the past year.

eAIR: Can you share an example of a project or report you initiated based on knowledge gained through AIR?
I have two specific examples of what our office implemented based on knowledge from the AIR Forum. First, we started an internal website where we could post interesting facts, results from projects we worked on, updates about data we posted to the external website, and so on. I went to a few sessions about this topic at the AIR Forum. MORE
