2012 Award Winners Recognized at Forum

 

AIR congratulates the following members on their accomplishments and celebrates their contributions to the Association and the field of institutional research.

Sidney Suslow Award

The Sidney Suslow Award recognizes an AIR member for distinguished scholarly contributions to institutional research over a significant period of time. Steve’s scholarship is recognized, appreciated, and utilized by students, faculty members, and administrators around the globe. Yet each person who wrote in support of his nomination for this award spoke of his commitment to the scholarly endeavors of graduate students and junior colleagues. This type of dedication highlights his genuine interest in the future of institutional research. By fostering the success of other scholars, he is helping to ensure that the profession will benefit from high quality and thoughtful contributions in the years to come. In the words of one of his colleagues, "Steve truly inspires others and has the ability to turn curiosity into enthusiasm. 

Outstanding Service Award

The Outstanding Service Award recognizes an AIR member for professional leadership and exemplary service to the Association, and for actively supporting and facilitating the goals and mission of the Association. Mary Ann’s commitment to providing formal and informal professional development opportunities for AIR members is remarkable, and speaks to her genuine interest in others’ success and the future of our profession. In particular, her ability to make connections with a wide variety of audiences and facilitate others’ learning has had a profound influence on AIR members. In the words of one of her colleagues, Mary Ann is “a consummate teacher, leader, mentor, and researcher who exemplifies the collegiality and professionalism of institutional research.”

John E. Stecklein Distinguished Member Award

The John E. Stecklein Distinguished Member Award is presented to an AIR member who has made significant and substantial contributions to the field of institutional research. As a prolific scholar, Pat’s words have touched students, faculty members, and administrators around the globe. His ability to make the importance and value of the student experience salient is remarkable and reflects his genuine interest in fostering the success of others. He has facilitated our learning through a wide variety of publications and presentations, inspired countless graduate students to pursue careers in institutional research, and made himself available to people who reach out to him in search of guidance—all while maintaining focus on the student experience. In the words of one of his colleagues, Pat’s “genuine caring about others professionally and personally is a powerful magnet.”
