Note: This IPEDS Workshop is being held in a computer lab. Therefore, attendees will not need to bring a MAC or PC laptop with wireless capability with them.

The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) and the Mississippi Association for Institutional Research (MAIR) are co-hosting a one-day IPEDS Workshop for data providers and users in conjunction with MAIR's Annual Conference. Financial support for this workshop is provided by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

This workshop features these training modules:

Special Topics- This module includes information on the new race/ethnicity categories, the Net Price Calculator, the Data Center, CIP Codes, and Student Financial Assistance.

IPEDS Data and Benchmarking: Supporting Decision Making and Institutional Effectiveness-Module 1 introduces the fundamentals of creating benchmarks to measure institutional effectiveness. The module provides an overview of the types of comparison groups that can be constructed using IPEDS data, with examples of appropriate use. Participants will use actual data from the IPEDS surveys, including the IPEDS Data Feedback Report and Executive Peer Tool. Exercises and resources will demonstrate processes to establish key performance indicators and identify variables to refine comparison groups.

Dr. Cynthia B. Gray
Director of Institutional Research and Planning
Beloit College
Beloit, WI

Cynthia Gray is Director of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning at Beloit College (Beloit, WI). In addition to serving as Beloit’s IPEDS keyholder, she uses IPEDS data extensively in statistical and policy analyses and to support institutional long-range planning. Prior to assuming her current position in Institutional Research, Cynthia was a member of the faculty in psychology at Beloit College and Alverno College (Milwaukee, WI); she finds her 13 years of higher education teaching experience invaluable as she works to help users and potential users of IPEDS data begin to answer important questions about their institutions and higher education in general.

Cynthia received her PhD and MA from The Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD) and her B.A. from Earlham College (Richmond, IN).

Dr. Sonia Brandon
Director of Institutional Research and Assessment
Mesa State College
Grand Junction, CO

Dr. Brandon has served as the Director of Institutional Research at Mesa State College since 2004 and began her career in higher education in 2001. Prior to her current position, Sonia worked as the research analyst at the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.

Sonia was a member of the 2008 - 2009 Finance Webinar Development Team and also served on the 2008 - 2009 Technical Review Panel for the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) - implementation of institutional costs as well as calculators. Dr. Brandon has been involved in IPEDS reporting since 2001 and for the past seven years has served as a trainer for NCES on IPEDS reporting and the use of related tools such as the Peer Analysis System and the Dataset Cutting Tool. Recently, she has focused her trainings more specifically on the HEOA disclosure and reporting requirements and the implementation of race and ethnicity for IPEDS reporting.

This workshop is limited to 40 participants. Workshop participants may request up to $500 to offset the cost of travel.

  • Agreement to:
    • Arrange my own travel and hotel as needed
    • Attend the entire workshop and complete the workshop evaluation
