Institution: Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) is one of sixteen members that make up The University of North Carolina. The University was established in 1891 and is located in picturesque northeast North Carolina. The student enrollment has grown by 23% since 2001 and has a current enrollment of 2,470 students. ECSU offers bachelor’s in 36 different programs, Master’s in Elementary Education, Mathematics, and Biology, and has a joint pharmacy program with UNC Chapel Hill leading to the PharmD.

Job Duties: The Director of Institutional Research and Assessment will lead and support the University’s institutional research and statistical reporting activities to The University of North Carolina, Office of the President and other state and federal agencies by maintaining the institutional research data system. The Director reports to the Assistant to the Chancellor for Enrollment Management, Planning, Research, and Outreach. In addition, the Director will provide technical assistance for learning assessment initiatives; academic program evaluation and benchmarking; data support for grant proposals; environmental scanning and opportunity assessment; and institutional research instrumentation and technology development. Other responsibilities include publishing the annual ECSU Fact Book on the web and in hardcopy, leading the preparation of the Delaware Study, IPEDS reports, student data file (SDF), financial aid file (FAF), personnel data file (PDF), and pulling data from complex academic management systems to regularly provide other statistical reports.

Qualifications: A minimum of a Master’s degree is required to be considered for this position in one or more of the following fields related to institutional research, such as Computer Science; Information Resource Management (developing a comprehensive management approach to the introduction of information systems in an organization in order to ensure that the information technology solutions that are chosen will be deemed most appropriate); Educational Measurement and Planning in Higher Education; Social Sciences, Psychology; or Statistics. Must have a familiarity with SAS; SPSS; database; spreadsheet; Banner (migration underway); SCT Luminis; ADS; and other computer programs to translate quantitative data into usable information for planning, assessment, and other decision-making purposes; strong analytical, writing, communications, and interpersonal skills; and familiarity with academic settings.

Salary/Benefits: This is a 12 month, full-time position and is Exempt from the Personnel Act (EPA). Starting salary will be $53,830. A comprehensive benefits plan is provided.
