Job Title: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH - Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, IL Deadline Date: Open Until Filled Starting Date: May 1, 2009 Institution: Northeastern Illinois University traces its origin to the beginnings of teacher training in Illinois. Founded in September, 1867 in Blue Island as the Normal School, Cook County’s first teacher training school, the institution has evolved into the comprehensive university that it is today. Its main campus, located on the northwest side of Chicago, opened in 1961 and was then called Chicago Teachers College North. In 1971, the college became Northeastern Illinois University. Job Duties: The Assistant Director will spend 50% time managing all phases of the Unit Cost Study. This will include supervising support staff and students assigned to the Cost Study.
Other responsibilities include: Managing and fostering growth in standardized internal reporting to senior administrators, deans, faculty, and staff; interfacing with senior administrators and faculty to conduct research to improve the effectiveness of the University; assisting Director with presentations and other reporting as requested by senior administrators, deans, faculty, and staff; participating in the growth and long range planning for the Office; and fulfilling other duties as assigned by the Director. Qualifications: A Master’s degree in higher education, educational research, the social or behavioral sciences, or a related field is required. A minimum of 3 years experience in institutional research or applied research in higher education is required. Preferred skills and abilities include some combination of the following: knowledge of quantitative research design and data analysis, and survey methodology. Proficiency in SPSS and Excel required. Applicants must have strong analytical and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative research environment. Hands-on experience conducting a unit cost study strongly preferred. Experience using Cognos and Banner or other performance management systems also a plus.
