The Association was incorporated in 1965 in Michigan and created a permanent executive office in Tallahassee, Florida, in 1974. Since then, AIR has grown to be a respected voice for institutional researchers at the federal level on higher education issues. There are five international member associations and 43 state, regional and sector associations.
The mission of AIR is to support members in their efforts to continuously improve the practice of institutional research for postsecondary planning, management and operations and to further develop and promote the institutional research profession.

Job Duties: The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) has again won federal funding of over $1.5 million and is seeking an Associate Director to provide daily oversight and leadership for this comprehensive face-to-face and online training in support of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). The Associate Director will supervise 5 or more staff members in developing training materials and strategies as well as have oversight for a travel grant program. The Associate Director will recruit and manage a cohort of at least 50 institutional research (IR) professionals from around the country who serve as part-time consultants and trainers for delivering at least 22 meetings per year. Other responsibilities include serving on the senior leadership team for the Association, ensuring timely compliance of contract and grant deliverables, and overseeing quality control for final products and services. Qualifications: Significant experience managing an IR office, working knowledge of IPEDS, experience writing reports and managing budgets, successful project management, supervision of staff, and experience in public speaking and presentations.
