Job Duties: Reporting, data analysis, and data management activities represent a significant portion of the Assistant Director’s job. The Assistant Director will respond to internal and external data requests and will be involved in preparing data for compliance reports, internal publications, guidebooks and survey requests. Accordingly, he/she will extract and retrieve data from various University data systems as well as from databases external to the University. He/She will identify and retrieve pertinent data from various sources, work with a variety of computer software packages and platforms, help monitor the quality of reporting data, and prepare data analyses and reporting data as needed.
The Assistant Director will work with various campus units regarding data needs, data availability, data quality, and data definitions of University data. The Assistant Director will also provide guidance to the University community regarding the appropriate use of data for internal and external reporting and analysis. He/she will work with various campus units to stay abreast of reporting needs and comply with federal and state reporting requirements.
In addition, the Assistant Director will support the director in monitoring office activity that involves reporting, data management, data analysis, surveys, and administrative projects and will help coordinate selected day to day office operations. The Assistant Director will also be involved in survey research which may include: designing questionnaires; initiating, conducting and reporting on various survey projects; administrating surveys; meeting with clients to outline parameters of research; preparing reports and communicating results to constituencies. Qualifications: A Master's degree is required as is 5 years of related work experience. Prior experience in an institutional research office/setting, including experience in data collection, analysis and reporting is required. The Assistant Director will have excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to mentor/train institutional research staff members are strongly preferred. The Assistant Director will be able to prioritize and organize projects, to identify problems, recommend solutions and resolve issues with the workflow of the office. In addition, strong knowledge of research methods, survey design, data collection and reporting is preferred. Proficiency with various software packages including MS Office applications, database tools, SPSS, and data query tools is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in data management, are comfortable using large datasets, and who are familiar with data warehousing concepts.
