For more information, please visit our Web site. Job Duties: The College of Education currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Manager of Institutional Research . This individual will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data with the goal of improving the programs throughout the College. The Manager investigates factors and gathers information, data, and statistics that bear on change and renewal of the College of Education’s academic and instructional program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Manage a system for tracking information within and about the College of Education. Produce a series of reports that includes the following statistics: numbers of applicants / admissions / matriculants [yield]; causes for non-matriculation; time to degree; progress toward degree [including tracking of significant degree milestones]; numbers of graduates; ethnic, gender breakdowns; advisor loads; costs per graduate; state and national supply and demand data; emergence of programs at other institutions [using varied data sources, quantitative and qualitative]. • Develop, implement, and manage reports that identify, track, and collect information from institutions that employ our graduates, about their level of preparation, needed changes in program design, their preparation for particular jobs and the field in general. • Collaborate with efforts throughout the College (e.g., teacher education renewal) that bear on how data about these issues are collected and presented. • Identify, track, and collect other regional and national sources of information relevant to program renewal and quality, including data relevant to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of programs, and to connecting structures of programs and courses more directly to faculty research interests. • Develop a system to use existing financial data to better understand the cost of running the College’s academic programs. • Collect information on anticipated program directions, costs, credits, student numbers, and funding sources. • Develop capacity to track graduates of teacher education and other professional program to asses their impact on student learning. Qualifications: Master’s degree in education, institutional data or related field and three years experience researching, tracking, and developing reporting systems for data and statistics. The top candidate brings a broad awareness of the field of education, its constituent fields and domains, as well as sources of information about current and emerging trends in the field (national and regional institutes, centers, foundations; sources of data and reports).
Excellent data analysis skills – includes research, data mining, analysis, validation, and the ability to generate clear representations of data to diverse audiences in narrative, tabular, and graphical forms. Demonstrated experience understanding, relating, and reconciling, data from distinct sources. Experience working with financial data. Ability to generate documentation of technical processes.
Demonstrated proficiency with core technologies – Windows, MS Access, MS Excel, and SQL. Proven ability to learn new technologies and problem solve. Top candidates will be comfortable with Unix-like OSes and MacOS, understanding of data security, have knowledge of UW data systems, and have familiarity with web databases, web security, and web services.
Excellent interpersonal skills –Ability to work with Area Chairs, faculty groups and committees, other parts of the UW, and relevant state and national professional and administrative organizations. Ability to negotiate complex institutional systems. Strong communication skills in oral and written presentation of data. The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree related to the field of education or institutional research.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
