Atlanta University Center: Spelman is part of the largest consortium of historically Black institutions of higher learning in the world. Its four partner institutions include Clark Atlanta University, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine. Spelman shares cross-registration with its undergraduate partners. They also share the Robert W. Woodruff Library.

Campus: A historic campus of 39 acres, dating back to 1883, five minutes west of downtown Atlanta. There are 25 buildings, including Sisters Chapel, Giles Hall, Packard Hall, Rockefeller Hall and Reynolds Cottage. The Camille O. Hanks Cosby Academic Center was dedicated in 1996, and a new state-of-the-art Science Center houses classrooms and labs.

Job Duties: The director provides leadership in the collection, interpretation, assessment, use, and dissemination of institutional data for support of the College’s strategic planning and decision-making processes. In collaboration with other administrative units, the director coordinates the operational planning process and institutional effectiveness assessments, as they relate to the College’s ongoing evaluation and improvement of its functioning.

Qualifications: Our ideal candidate competencies will include:

Mater’s Degree and six years of experience in higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience are required. Prior experience in the supervision of employees is also required. PhD is preferred.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to apply advanced information technology solutions to address both departmental and institutional management information needs is essential. The position requires the use of enterprise resource planning systems such as: SunGard HE BANNER and Oracle; Oracle data extraction, scripting, and database manipulation software utilizing PL/SQL. (such as SQL Navigator, PL/SQL Developer, and Toad); Web publication and development software such as Cold Fusion; enterprise reporting software, such as Crystal Reports, and Oracle Discoverer; and statistical software and related packages, such as SPSS, and SAS. The Director should have provided reporting necessary to support continued accreditation by the Southern Associations of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

The Director should have knowledge of current practice in institutional research and provide leadership to update and maintain efficient office operations. The Director should be highly proficient in the use of institutional information systems, data retrieval and development software, and related technologies.

Must have the ability to design and implement both standardized and highly customized reports and studies to support management decision-making at all levels is needed. It is also important for the Director to be able to form and to negotiate solutions to complex organizational issues related to the delivery of critical services and products to a broad spectrum of institutional clients. It is critical for the Director to be able to understand, adapt, and apply advances and trends in higher education research, data management, and policies within both departmental and institutional settings.
