Job Duties: Columbus State University has an opening for a Director of Institutional Research in the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The director will develop and direct an enterprise-wide management information program/service designed to provide data for academic and administrative decision-making. Responsibilities include: supervising the collection, analysis, and preservation of data for use by the institution; developing a comprehensive data base for utilization in responding to inquiries from within the university and external agencies; compiling and publishing longitudinal and comparative data about the university; coordinating the submission of data to external agencies as required; conducting research activities related to studies about the institution; working with academic staff to identify information needs, conducting research to answer questions of an institutional nature which are required by administrative officers, and consulting with other administrative officers concerning research needs and procedures; reviewing, interpreting, and disseminating findings of research studies; and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate must work cooperatively with others on campus and take the lead in developing a sufficient data system to support the information needs of the institution.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree required, doctorate preferred, and three to five years in progressively developing positions with experience in working with academic as well as central administration. Demonstrated experience in collecting and analyzing data in a higher education environment, with success in writing and presentation skills. Knowledge of a variety of software packages for data analysis and reporting as well as housing the databases. The ability to communicate effectively with computer professionals in the development and maintenance of a data system is crucial. A successful criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment.
