Job Duties: VCU invites applications for the position of Business Intelligence Analyst (BIA) in the Center for Institutional Effectiveness (CIE), Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The BIA will serve as a key team member in the CIE, working in close partnership with Office of Information Technology (IT) staff to implement VCUs campus-wide business intelligence/decision support system. This is a 12-month professional faculty appointment reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness.

This position is responsible for interacting with user communities at all levels of functioning across the University to identify the information that is needed for decision-making purposes (operational, tactical and strategic). In addition, this position will coordinate with IT, CIE staff, and others to identify the best business intelligence mechanism to meet those needs to include:

* Developing an understanding of business, planning, and decision-making processes.
* Designing business intelligence deliverables such as web reports, portal pages, OLAP cubes, dashboards and information maps.
* Testing complex tools (e.g. reports) to assure the functionality and integrity of the reporting solutions.
* Preparing thorough technical documentation.
* Evaluating the effectiveness of deliverables with end users and making design modifications and enhancements.
* Providing training to end users to maximize their ability to use the decision support system. Providing user assistance and direction for ad hoc data reporting.
* Identifying data quality issues and supporting data governance initiatives.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a masters degree or the equivalent in training and work experience in related field; a minimum three years experience with databases or information systems in progressively responsible positions; demonstrated knowledge in the areas of data modeling, data extraction, and data analysis; proficiency with BI querying and reporting tools such as Business Objects, Cognos or Oracle Business Intelligence Suite; knowledge/experience with data warehousing and star schema, operational data stores, SQL and MDX; excellent analytical, planning and organization skills; proven experience in successfully planning and managing projects of various scope and size; exceptional written and oral communication skills; and demonstrated experience in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex and highly technical information.

Preferred: Candidates who have experience working in a university setting; knowledge of Oracle database systems; experience with the SAS Enterprise Business Intelligence environment, including Enterprise Guide, Web Report Studio, Information Maps, Information Delivery Portal and OLAP Cubes; and knowledge of higher education, information for decision making issues are desirable.
