Department: Graduate Studies and Research

The College of Extended and International Education extends to the University into the community through both self-supported and state-supported, market responsive, educational programs and services which transmit university-based knowledge and skills. The College coordinates CSUDH international offerings, international student outreach and support and study abroad programs. The College provides the University with opportunities for faculty development, experimentation in curriculum, and development of new instructional delivery systems. Program areas include: Winter and Spring Intersessions and other Special Sessions; Open University; Credit and Non-Credit Programs; Certificate Programs; Center for Training and Development; Travel/Study; Center for Mediated Instruction and Distance Learning; Lifelong Learning and the Osher Institute; International Training Program, American Language and Culture Program; and Study Abroad.

Major Job Duties:
Under general supervision of the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, the Thesis and Grant Review Coordinator is responsible for two distinct areas: 1) coordination of graduate students' master's thesis/project review and publication, and 2) facilitation of faculty grant proposals development and submission.

As a thesis coordinator, the incumbent independently oversees all aspects of thesis review and publication and specifically is responsible for reviewing theses/projects for grammar and conformance to the formatting standards, and for the electronic publishing of each master's thesis/project submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies and Research. Additionally, in this role, the incumbent is responsible for creating thesis submission reports and tracking the review status of each thesis and project to ensure that all required checkpoints are met, and facilitates successful completion of the thesis/project submission process. The Coordinator is also responsible for the electronic publication of student work to Hydra and copyrighting. The Coordinator codes documents deposited in CSUDH Hydra so they can be searched by multiple criteria such as keywords, administrative units, title, or project name. The Coordinator is responsible for sending student work, along with payment, to the US Copyright Office, and for clearing students for graduation by sending the necessary memo to Admissions and Records.

As a grant review coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for facilitating faculty grant review and editing, writing and submission. This involves pro-actively identifying, monitoring, and matching relevant funding opportunities to faculty research interests, assisting with proposal writing, editing and submission, and assisting with development of collaborative proposals. The incumbent is also responsible for establishing and cultivating relationships with faculty, staff, and other key campus stakeholders to stay informed of current research and programmatic activities. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for reviewing grant proposal solicitations, creating check lists and templates of the proposals, and guiding faculty through proposal development. In this role, the incumbent works closely with pre- and post-award staff to assure that a proposal budget is correct and all research compliance elements are met.

Additional responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: editing faculty manuscripts for publication, editing and writing brief articles for the Graduate Studies and Research newsletter, and reviewing official documents prepared by the Office.
QualificationsQualifications:
Mastery of English language, syntax, and grammar;
Experience with formatting tools such as MS Word;
The ability to work collaboratively with the staff of GS&R, graduate advisors, and CSUDH faculty;
Excellent communication skills;

Experience with Blackboard or similar learning management;

Experience and Education:
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education: A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training.

Preferred Education: MA or MS degree.

Required Experience: Administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Preferred Experience: Minimum of one year in a copy-editing or scholarly-editing position;
Prior experience with publishing repositories and learning management systems, such as Blackboard.

The salary range for this classification is: $3,897 - $6,453 monthly.
