Institution descriptionThe University of Wisconsin-Parkside is a comprehensive campus of the University of Wisconsin System with approximately 4800 students, 120 faculty, and 70 instructional academic staff offering 33 undergraduate majors and 3 master's degrees in 22 academic departments. The campus is located between the cities of Kenosha and Racine in southeastern Wisconsin, within the Chicago-Milwaukee corridor.

The university is situated on 700 acres of prairie and woodland approximately two miles west of Lake Michigan. Consisting of 15 buildings, the coherence and unity of the original campus design within its natural landscape has been sustained over four decades of development. Recent additions include a renovated and expanded student center, a 250 bed suite-style residence hall, and a greatly expanded and renovated center for the arts and humanities.

Job dutiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support Research and Data Initiatives
The Institutional Planner will work with the Associate Policy and Planning Analyst and faculty and staff across the university to:
•Design data collection, analysis and presentation protocols.
•Develop queries from multiple databases to extract data, and combine data from disparate (internal and external) sources to produce meaningful analysis.
•Collect and refine data, producing descriptive and inferential analyses requested by both internal and external audiences.
•Synthesize findings and report them effectively in written and graphical reports.
•Develop data for UW-Parkside’s required reporting for the UW System, the State, and the Higher Learning Commission.
•Manage and fulfill annual external data reporting needs, such as the Common Data Set, ACT, Student Achievement Measure, and US News and World Report.
•Respond to ad-hoc requests for institutional data on a timely basis.


Support Assessment and Academic Data Requirements
The Institutional Planner will work with the Associate Policy and Planning Analyst and faculty and staff across the university to:
•Develop planning reports and materials for program review, program-level assessment activities, program development and position requests, and external assessment reporting requirements.
•Collaborate with the Faculty Director of Assessment and Accreditation to ensure effective practice and documentation of student learning outcomes in support of the Higher Learning Commission institutional accreditation process.
•Provide administrative support to the Academic Achievement and Assessment Committee.
Data Quality and Accuracy
•Ensure Data Quality and Accuracy of data created, disseminated, and reported on behalf of UW-Parkside.
•Communicate with developers, data custodians and functional offices to address consistent data definitions and integrity.
Miscellaneous
•Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
•Considerable understanding of and experience with statistical software such as SPSS or SAS.
•Considerable knowledge of collecting, analyzing and presenting qualitative and quantitative data for data-informed decision-making.
•Considerable knowledge of general computer/database skills including strong SQL skills and experience working with database query tools.
•Considerable knowledge of research techniques and methodologies, including both quantitative and qualitative research methods to include: project and research planning and design, data collection, analysis, report preparation and presentation of results; principles of survey design and techniques; principles of statistical analysis; research design, including literature review and synthesis, and comprehensive report preparation with respect to purpose, method, analysis, results, and recommendation.
•Considerable knowledge of Excel, MS Access or other relational database systems, web applications and other related software.
•Working knowledge and understanding of issues and sources of information in higher education and ability to synthesize and transform data into useful information.
•Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
•Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks and to meet schedules and deadlines.
•Ability to perform work with accuracy and attention to detail and have high standards of work.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
•Excellent written and verbal skills including strong report writing and presentation skills.
•Must be able to use computers for extended periods of time.and information gathering.
QualificationsRequired:

• Master’s degree required in a field that requires significant work in research methods and statistical methods (e.g., social science, computer science, business, statistics, etc.).
• At least two years of applied research experience in an academic setting either on a full or part-time basis, or as part of a master’s degree program in a relevant field.
• Demonstrated experience using quantitative and qualitative research methods.
• Excellent analytical and written communication skills.

Preferred:

•Experience in public higher education.
•Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
•Experience with business intelligence software.
•Experience with a student population similar to UW-Parkside’s students.
•Experience with assessment and program evaluation.
