Job dutiesUnder the general supervision of the Vice Provost for Planning and Budget, the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) will provide visionary leadership in the use of data for decision making and planning. The incumbent will embrace the mission of California State University, Los Angeles, and will bring innovative ideas about how Institutional Research and Assessment may be applied in service of that mission. Incumbent will guide the future direction of IE development; oversee and manage IE projects including state and systems reporting; admission and enrollment analytics; and university’s graduation and student success initiatives. The incumbent will be a key ambassador to the university representing the value of data-informed decision making. The incumbent will be provide strong project management oversight to support IE staff in completing time sensitive complex tasks; encourage the professional development of staff; perform workshops and consultations to expand the campus community’s knowledge and facility with IE data tools; provide planning and analytical support to the Director of Program Review and Assessment for periodic review, reaccreditation, and curricular assessment plans; and create and maintain a data collection, analysis, and visualization framework for these efforts. The candidate will work forge strong partnerships with various unit on campus to reconcile and update the Common Management System (CMS) to facilitate IE functions; promote clear business processes that ensure data integrity; create and maintain a data warehouse for consistent and accurate reporting; support the technical infrastructure of the University’s data systems; and facilitate the creation of new data tools and resources.
QualificationsA graduate degree from an accredited college or university required in statistics, data management, information technology, or other appropriate field. Demonstrated progressive experience in related area, at least three to five years of which include supervisory responsibilities. Incumbent must be pro-active and flexible leader who is prepared to develop and maintain critical partnerships across the institution. The position requires a strong technical background working with PeopleSoft, relational database systems, databases queries using SQL or similar, and data warehousing methods; strong project management skills; and excellent communication and leadership skills. Must have currency in best practices in institutional research and assessment. Incumbent must have knowledge of assessment and accreditation policies and best practices. Incumbent must have the ability to plan and implement comprehensive data access and visualization strategies for the campus community; motivate productivity from cross-unit teams; and an ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
