First Time at Forum Tips

We’ve put together a list of practical tips to help you get ready for you first time at the AIR Forum.

  • Bring business cards.
  • Network with other attendees.
  • Make a note on the back of any business cards you receive about how you met that person or what you discussed so you can follow up later.
  • Prepare a small 30-second speech about yourself.
  • Volunteer at the conference by facilitating a session.
  • Attend AO state/regional meetings for which you are a member or that are of interest.
  • Attend educational sessions, but also attend something fun.
  • Use the conference app and play the app game.
  • Get social! Follow #AIRForum2019 on Twitter and find us on Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Select events that really appeal to you and devote your time to them.
  • Make time for the Exhibit Hall.
  • Take Visa or MasterCard with you, as they are the most widely used credit cards.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. You'll be walking a lot and may be on your feet for hours at a time.
  • Pack appropriate clothing. Business casual is the usual dress for the Forum. Be sure to pack a jacket or light sweater since meeting rooms can be chilly.
  • Take a travel umbrella.
  • Check with your cell phone provider to determine if they provide coverage where you’ll be, and what rates will apply for phone and data plans.
  • Take your badge off when you are walking around the city. It can mark you as a tourist and make you a target for pickpockets.
  • Find time to explore the conference host city.
