Institutional Research and Planning Analyst

Application Procedure:

Job Duties

Works on survey development and implementation. Conducts environmental scans to stay abreast of national trends in survey administration and identifies similar surveys conducted by others to find comparison data for the IRAP survey being conducted.

Prepares and implements survey test plan for assigned surveys. Survey test plan includes developing test cases and validating test responses.

Monitors server performance and online system during survey data collection period and resolves respondent's issues.

Prepares data files and codebook for clients.

Develops continual improvement processes for data submissions assigned for validation. Develops good working relationships with IRAP content experts and campus data providers in assigned area.

Validates survey data and create datasets based on specifications and the standardized file template for IRAP Digital Commons. Develops and employs analysis of submitted data using complex tests designed to identify data errors and problems at the time of submission; tests use data internal and external to the data file being tested.

On assigned surveys, is responsible for supporting client data analysis. Provides answers to ad hoc requests from OP management and others about survey results.

Create dashboards and data tables using Tableau to report responses.

Produces pro-active topic briefs as well as briefs on assigned topics; these are for non-technical audiences. These can be either written or online using data visualization tools such as Tableau.

Engage in data compilation, predictive modeling, statistics, trend analysis, report development, and archiving activities in support of IRAP's proactive direction and research goals and constituent functional needs.

Design research to examine issues related to student experience, completion, and outcomes using multiple data sources such as survey data, institutional data, and external data (e.g., the National Student Clearinghouse and IPEDS).

Synthesize issues and present them in a creative and non-technical manner.

Attend classes, seminars, and conferences that enhance expertise. Serve on universitywide committees as appropriate, and participate in activities that enhance the UC community and support the university mission. Responsible for upholding the UCOP Principles of Community.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent training in computer science, social science or related area and 3 years or more of related experience.

Requires general knowledge in survey administration and analysis techniques including statistics or social science research methods. Requires advanced knowledge in survey methodologies such as survey question creation and in-depth analysis on survey validity and reliability.

Knowledge of survey tools such as CASES, Qualtrics and similar. Knowledge of data management tools such as Cognos, SAS, DB Visualizer, SQL and similar.

Experience working with sensitive data including survey responses and personally identifiable information. Requires knowledge of FERPA and California Individual Practices Act (IPA).

Able to provide good judgment, decision-making and problem solving. Strong ability to pay attention to detail.

Requires good interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to work on multi-disciplinary teams. Employs active listening and critical thinking skills. Ability to multi-task and work on quick turnaround tasks of critical importance.

Requires strong ability and desire to present information in a clear concise manner both verbally and in written form and online.

UC experience preferred.

Prefer general knowledge in data processing systems and analysis including information technology research techniques.

Prefer experience designing survey questionnaires.

Prefer experience with UC policy and practice for personally identifiable information.

Prefer UC experience with organization rules and regulations surrounding data processing.
