Job Duties

Assessment of Opportunity Hub Impact and Outcomes (65%):
-In consultation with the Learning, Data, and Assessment team, the Principal Investigator, Assistant Dean, and other stakeholders, design quantitative and qualitative research protocols and analysis plans to determine the Hub’s impact on students
-Provide strategic direction to the formation of quantitative data sets
-Utilize a statistical package to conduct complex statistical analyses
-Create and conduct survey-based assessment on Hub programs
-Conduct qualitative research on specific programs, including focus groups, interviews, and the coding of written and spoken language
-Prepare periodic reports at the level of the Opportunity Hub, the college, and the donor
-Produce assessment-related research of publishable quality and disseminate at conferences and in related peer-reviewed journals

Benchmarking and Program Research (15%):
-As necessary, in cooperation with the Learning and Assessment Coordinator, develop literature reviews, benchmark against peer institutions, and develop policy briefs to inform decision-making
-Identify, compile, and disseminate information on key trends in college student development, economic and career outcomes of postsecondary education, and the impact of liberal arts and sciences education on students’ career readiness.

Collaborating and Advising across Teams (15%):
-Collaborate across teams in the Opportunity Hub to identify and advise on assessments appropriate to the demonstration of impact on students and stakeholders
-Advise Learning and Assessment Coordinator and Data and Systems Analysts in developing and implementing assessment-related data collection and management techniques in the Opportunity Hub
-In coordination with the Learning, Data, and Assessment team form relationships with key partners and units in the college and university pertinent to the measurement of student outcomes

Professional Development (5%):
-Stay abreast of emerging trends and current research on higher education, particularly with regard to assessment, student learning and development, high impact practices and the liberal arts and sciences, and career readiness initiatives
-Actively participate in professional development activities related to assessment work, as well as those that relate to the Hub mission
-Actively engage and contribute to the profession at campus, local, regional, and/or national level
-Be an active member of related professional organizations
-Attend meetings, represent LSA & Hub interests as appropriate

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
-Master’s degree in Higher Education, Sociology, Psychology, or related field, including graduate-level academic training in both qualitative and quantitative research methods in postsecondary education
-3+ years of progressively responsible experience conducting research and assessment in a postsecondary education setting
-Experience designing, conducting, and interpreting multivariate analyses including linear and logistic regression, ANOVA, quasi-experimental designs, and clustering techniques
-Advanced understanding of scholarly literature on student learning and development
-Advanced experience with a statistical software package (Stata, SPSS, R, SAS, etc.)
-Experience utilizing large institutional data sets in institutional research
-Experience with surveying in postsecondary education research
-Experience working with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff

Desired Qualifications:
-Ph.D. in Higher Education, Sociology, Psychology, or related field
-Experience constructing large institutional data sets
-5+ years of progressively responsible experience conducting research and assessment in a postsecondary education setting
-Experience working in higher education administration, particularly in institutional research
-Experience with data visualization (i.e. Tableau)

The Research and Assessment Specialist, working within the Opportunity Hub’s Learning, Data, and Assessment team, will implement and manage a formal assessment of LSA Opportunity Hub services, impacts, and outcomes. As well as helping to shape and test the assessment model led by the Principal Investigator, the Research and Assessment Specialist is primarily responsible for carrying out quantitative and qualitative research, overseeing the formation of quantitative data sets, conducting statistical analyses, and designing quantitative and qualitative assessment activities such as conducting focus groups, administering surveys, and coding written responses. The individual in this position will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills; build and maintain positive, effective relationships with key stakeholders within the Hub and throughout the college; handle multiple projects and priorities; and be willing and able to adapt rapidly to change. This position reports to the Director of Learning, Data, and Assessment.
