Job Duties

The Assistant Director for Assessment and Institutional Research leads and develops a comprehensive institutional assessment program to support the university's mission and strategic initiatives.  Specifically, the position supports faculty governance and assists faculty in developing academic program student learning outcomes and assessment and using results for programmatic improvement.  The person also collaborates with relevant campus constituencies and assists with co-curricular assessment to support student success as well as support the planning and coordination of administrative unit assessment. The position provides support for fulfilling accreditation requirements related to New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) as well as discipline specific accreditations. The position reports to the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements a systematic and ongoing plan for the assessment, analysis and reporting of student learning outcomes and related programs and services to support planning.
  • Supports academic program assessment (curricular and co-curricular activities) and continuous improvement of student learning through consultation, mentoring and hands-on training with faculty and staff in the development of meaningful and measurable outcomes and appropriate assessment methods.
  • Contributes to the collection and analysis of direct and indirect assessment data to support institutional and departmental accreditation and program reviews, including dissemination of results and assisting others with interpretation and appropriate use.
  • Prepare high-level reports and presentations of assessment findings, with emphasis on student learning outcomes and evidence of continuous improvement.
  • Co-chairs (with a faculty member) undergraduate assessment committee and graduate assessment committee.
  • Coordinates assessment and institutional effectiveness activities and documentation needed for compliance purposes and for (NECHE) accreditation and other institution -and/or program-level specialized accreditations.
  • Develops and promotes internal and external communication of assessment results.
  • Performs related project and duties as assigned to support the University.

Job Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Master's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, preferably in a higher education environment.
  • Expertise in student learning outcomes assessment, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and direct and indirect assessment best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse members of the university community including faculty, staff, administrators, students, and accreditors.
  • Knowledge of regional, national, and specialized postsecondary accreditation standards, practices, and goals.
  • Knowledge of University data systems, definitions, and procedures.
