POSITION SUMMARY The Institutional Research Manager III establishes strategic partnerships and works collaboratively across all levels and areas of the College, including executive leadership, faculty, and staff. This position oversees and ensures data integrity, quality assurance, reporting compliance, and ensures institutional data collection and reporting processes are reliable, valid, and ethical. This position also designs, develops, and implements: 1) the strategic vision and direction of the Institutional Research (IR) Department, both internally and externally, 2) IR best practices and scalable solutions college-wide to promote data driven decision-making, short- and long-term strategic and operational stability, and institutional effectiveness, and 3) research tools, research design, and statistical and analytical techniques, etc. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB •Develops and implements the strategic vision and direction of the Institutional Research (IR) Department internally and externally and supports the College’s ability to accomplish the mission. •Establishes and implements institutional research best practices and scalable solutions across the institution to promote short- and long-term strategic and operational stability. Implements research tools, research design, statistical and analytical techniques, etc. •Be a team-oriented leader and build effective working relationships across the institution by working closely with various leadership levels and constituent groups. Determines the most appropriate format for conveying information to different types of audiences. •Serves as a liaison to internal and external constituents, establishes strategic partnerships, and provides strategic direction to influence external policy and decisions. •Ensures the IR Department activities strategically align with and support the College’s institutional effectiveness and accreditation requirements. Facilitates quality improvement by working with decision-makers across the College to enhance understanding, improve data collection and reporting, and promote data driven decision-making. •Oversees and ensures data integrity, common data definitions, and ensures institutional data collection and reporting processes are reliable, valid, and ethical. Trains decision-makers to enhance the collection and appropriate use of data throughout the College. •Conducts improved data management and enhances internal and external reporting and analytical capabilities. Participates in data security standards, establishes reporting standards, and oversees audits of common data elements. •Leads the design, collection, analysis, and dissemination of accurate and timely institutional data, including internal and external data requests, using a variety of software and data extraction tools. •Develops, plans, and implements IR projects. •Strategically prioritizes and manages the work for the Institutional Research team. Fosters the professional growth and development of IR team members. •Manages the preparation of required state and federal reports. Ensures compliance with state and federal reporting requirements. •Assists in developing, building, and implementing a sustainable future state Institutional Research structure and capacity institution-wide that promotes consistency, reliability, and accuracy in the compilation and dissemination of information. Provides oversight and guidance to IR analysts and resources embedded in functional areas throughout the College. •Performs other duties as assigned.
•Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred. •Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in the areas of strategic planning, Institutional Research, statistical analysis, research methodology, and data analytics. Five (5) years of Higher Education experience in the area of Institutional Research preferred. •Proven experience with database systems structures and extracting data using query/programming languages with the ability to develop, write, and query reports. Work with Ellucian’s Colleague data structures or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) system preferred. •Five (5) years of experience in Higher Education federal reporting, such as IPEDS, Student Clearinghouse, national surveys, etc. preferred •Experience working with Power BI (Microsoft), SAP Business Objects, or similar reporting tools preferred. •Experience facilitating the development of a data warehouse •Demonstrated ability to: •Provide leadership and vision for the role. •Think critically and discern critical information. Exercise judgment to solve administrative problems where the answer is not apparent. •Foster collaboration, creativity, and cohesion for data strategies and analyses. •Acquire, evaluate, organize, maintain, and communicate data using databases, data queries, and data access. •Work with large data sets, verifying, and checking data thoroughly for accuracy and completeness, importing, and exporting files between software. •Design, implement and manage institutional research projects. •Excellent communication and strong, positive, interpersonal skills. •Independent, driven, and an action-oriented individual who enjoys working in a dynamic, ambiguous, and changing environment.
