Director of Institutional Assessment

Job Duties

The Director of Institutional Assessment is responsible for the coordination and support of all student learning outcomes assessment plans and activities at the course, program, and institutional levels. This includes supervising the work of the Assessment Coaches assigned to support faculty in the assessment of student learning outcomes. In addition, the Director collaborates with the Executive Director of RAE and the Associate Vice President for Strategy, Planning, and Effectiveness to maintain alignment between area and unit objectives as part of the Strategic Planning process. The Director stays abreast of innovations in assessment and provides training and guidance on the creation and implementation of standards, policies, and procedures related to the assessment and improvement of student learning and institutional effectiveness.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Master’s degree in social sciences or related field required. Ph.D. preferred.
  2. Three years of experience teaching at a post-secondary institution preferred, preferably at a community college.
  3. Three years’ experience in the area of learning outcomes assessment and program evaluation at a post-secondary educational institution required, preferably at a community college.
  4. Prior experience leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive approach to outcomes assessment preferred.
  5. Demonstrated ability to present research findings in both written and oral formats.

  1. Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis and mix-methods research.
  2. Advanced knowledge of assessment theory and practice.
  3. Ability to lead team projects from design to implementation and evaluation of results.
  4. Ability to moderate discussion and reach consensus among participants with different priorities.
  5. Ability to guide others in connecting assessment results to institutional priorities.
  6. Experience using assessment data for the purpose of continuous improvement at all levels.
  7. Experience working collaboratively with administration, faculty, and staff, and incorporating their feedback for improving assessment processes and policies.
  8. Knowledge of Federal guidelines pertinent to human subject research.
  9. Knowledge of FERPA.
  10. Knowledge of Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) accreditation requirements related to Standard V – Educational Effectiveness Assessment and Standard VI – Planning, Resources, and Institutional Improvement.
  11. Ability to develop and query complex databases.
  12. Familiarity with assessment management platforms currently used in higher education.
  13. Intermediate knowledge of SPSS or similar analytical software package.
  14. Intermediate knowledge of NVivo or similar qualitative analysis software.
  15. Ability to work in a team environment and across units within the organization.
  16. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to tailor data presentations and reports to various audiences.
