Assistant Vice President for Research, Analytics & Planning

Job Duties

Champion data-driven innovation and excellence at all levels of the college to continuously improve practices, programs, and services.  Effectively collaborate with internal and external constituents, promoting creativity and the achievement of common goals.  Lead data reporting and compliance efforts with regulatory bodies, such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC), the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), and the National Center for Education Statistics (IPEDS).  Support reporting to other entities, such as the National Student Clearinghouse and the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA).  Promote institutional quality and effectiveness by providing leadership for and oversight of Northeast State’s ongoing, comprehensive, and integrated research-based planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement processes.

Specific Role and Responsibilities

Provide leadership and direct supervision for the office of Research, Analytics, and Planning, to include budget management

Promote collaboration across all areas to facilitate data-informed decisions

Support the president’s role in maintaining continued college accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC)

Serve as primary staff contact with the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) and the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) with regard to planning, Quality Assurance, institutional research, and accreditation activities

Lead and coordinate activities and systems related to SACSCOC, strategic planning, institutional research, select regulatory reporting, and major academic and administrative assessment.

Continue to develop individual employee skills, knowledge, and competency

Initiate employee performance reviews and maintain related records

Complete other assignments as directed by supervision

Job Qualifications

Education - Minimum of a master’s degree with a concentration in education administration, research, business, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution. Doctorate preferred

Five or more years of supervisory experience in progressively responsible administrative roles at a community college or university

Three or more years’ experience leading significant data-informed improvements to practices, programs, or services

Significant contribution to a regional or programmatic accreditation review process

Two or more years’ experience leading or supporting data reporting and compliance efforts with regulatory agencies or comparable bodies

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in highly collaborative environments

Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from a wide variety of disciplines and backgrounds

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to assimilate and analyze data accurately

Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence

Commitment to shared governance practices in higher education

Technology Skills: MS Office skills, Word, Excel, Access; digital records management systems; general operating systems, and data information systems


Preferred Skills

Three or more years’ experience leading an office of Research, Analytics and Planning or an office with a similar function

Demonstrated understanding of the comprehensive community college philosophy

Served in a leadership position during a SACSCOC decennial review process, or served as an accreditation liaison with SACSCOC for at least three years

Experience working with/reporting information to the Tennessee Board of Regents or the Tennessee Higher Education Commission

Ability to integrate technology and efficiency in performing duties

Correspondence and report writing capability
