Assistant Director for Data Integrity

Job Duties

James Madison University is currently accepting applications for the Assistant Director for Data Integrity. This position will assist the Office of Institutional Research (OIR) with maintaining and strengthening its information technology infrastructure. This will include collaborating with other OIR team members in developing and improving ETL processes, advanced query designs, effective database management practices, and business intelligence uses.


Duties and responsibilities: 

  • Direct annual efficiencies process to improve the accuracy and validity of data used to complete mandated and ad hoc reports
  • Translate simple and advanced PeopleSoft queries and data into existing office visualization and reporting platforms
  • Develop audit queries in PeopleSoft to improve data integrity
  • Work with reporting and business intelligence tools, specifically Tableau Server, to create and publish reports, dashboards, and data visualizations
  • Serve as the OIR Site Administrator for Tableau Server
  • Assist with growing and maintaining the office’s information infrastructure
  • Develop and manage JMU OIR SQL Server data tables
  • Serve as a liaison with JMU Information Technology
  • Collaborate with others across campus to improve data-entry processes
  • Manage multiple requests/projects simultaneously and ensure deadlines are met. Solutions are developed according to department, university, state and federal standards
  • Develop a detailed knowledge of SCHEV reports/routines in PeopleSoft
  • Stay current with industry changes in technology such as internet and desktop-based technologies
  • Assist with creation and maintenance of departmental documentation
  • Work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team

Job Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field; master’s degree and/or two to three years of experience preferred
  • Two to three years demonstrated experience with relational databases that includes developing and maintaining both simple and complex queries, troubleshooting issues, and managing data (Experience with SQL and PeopleSoft highly preferred)
  • Higher education experience preferred
  • Experience with business intelligence software and/or data visualization software (Tableau preferred)
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate data needs from stakeholders into complete, accurate queries and datasets
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments using various data sources
  • Ability to organize and present complex, technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a team—able to build and maintain good interpersonal relationships with work associates and internal and external constituencies
