The director will lead the student success data strategy and implementation for the University by synthesizing and leveraging large quantities of University and other data to identify patterns, gain insight into operations, and ultimately enhance capabilities for achieving institutional goals, including student success and other strategic priorities. The director will work across campus, collaborating with Student Life, Student Services and Enrollment Management, and Information Services, among others, to source data and develop new data sources to ensure a robust and multidimensional model.
The director will be responsible for developing and employing methods for analyzing the effectiveness of student success interventions. The director will work closely with the UO advising community to improve programming and develop strategies that are borne from data.
The director employs advanced statistical techniques, including data mining and machine learning, on major projects identified by the VP UESS and the director of institutional research to meet university priorities. The position requires the ability to work independently, take initiative, and think strategically. They must be able to effectively manipulate complex data systems, communicate findings and trends to decision-makers, and provide methodological and analytical leadership.
The director of student success analytics reports to the director of institutional research and serves as a vital member of the Undergraduate Education and Student Success Leadership Team.
• Master’s degree with documented course work in research methods and statistical analysis.
• Five years’ experience using data and statistical analysis to support student success efforts in a university environment (or a comparable situation)
• Two years’ experience working with large relational database systems and performing complex data extractions.
• Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge and familiarity with spreadsheets, programming languages, relational databases, and SQL.
• Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with a statistical package like SAS or SPSS.
• Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong, demonstrated knowledge of statistics.
• Demonstrated high-level of organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced, detail oriented and time sensitive environment.
• Diligently attends to details and pursues quality in accomplishing tasks.

• Recognizes situations that warrant initiative and moves forward; resolving issues, problems, or situations
• Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite (or similar).

• Ability to work with sensitive information, often of a confidential nature, directly related to academic processes and environment, e.g. FERPA-protected data.
• Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in statistics, social science research methods, or related disciplines.
• Seven years’ experience using data and statistical analysis to support student success efforts in a university environment (or similar experience)
Experience in higher education, preferably at a tier-1 research university
