As part of a data engineering team, the Database Engineer position will support innovative projects in data science and learning analytics. Tasks include building data pipelines between various data sources and Purdue's Data Analytics Platform, built on the Greenplum database.
Candidates should have the ability to integrate new data sources and perform tasks related to data transformation, ingestion, and automation, in a predominantly Linux environment. Proficiency in Python, SQL and UNIX shell scripting required. Experience with database administration tasks such as performance tuning, troubleshooting, monitoring, upgrading, patching, backup/recovery, and cloning preferred.
Daily tasks will include monitoring data feeds in the Greenplum environment. Excellent communication skills are needed to collaborate in a cross functional environment including IT infrastructure admins, data scientists, data analysts, and faculty research groups.

Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Three or more years of experience (P2 level)
- Demonstrated ability to write SQL queries to extract, transform and load data
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, SQL, PL/SQL and UNIX shell scripting
- Demonstrated abiity to work with ease in both LINUX and Windows environments
- Experience with Version Control Systems like GitHub
- Experience working with multiple database technologies like Greenplum, Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft SQLServer
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to learn new technologies
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple concurrent tasks
