Job Duties

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research, this role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient management of data supporting the institutional research and analytics functions. The incumbent will encompass data entry, organization, verification, and reporting tasks, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the institutional research data management processes, while supporting the university’s commitment to data-informed decision-making and academic excellence.

1.Responsible for the data management of the department’s data warehouse. (50%)

*Design, develop, implement, and maintain a data warehouse to collate and integrate current/historical data from various sources/systems within the university.
*Prepare and update technical documentation. Maintain current and accurate documentation. Maintain detailed documentation of data management processes, data dictionaries, and standard operating procedures. Contribute to the development of data management guidelines.
*Responsible for the curation of university data used to support all reporting needs, including but not limited to the university’s annual employee census, completions, enrollments, admissions, and more.

2.Support the reporting needs of the institutional research and analytics functions. Facilitate fast, accurate, consistent, and efficient reporting of institutional data to fulfill internal data requests and mandatory external reporting. (30%)

*Design, create, and generate reports to meet data requests. Assist in generating routine and ad-hoc reports based on specified data requirements. Prepare charts, graphs, and tables to present data visually, as needed.
*Optimize and improve SQL code for better performance.
* Develop database utilities, build, and automate reports and/or data extracts to support business analysis.
*Build and design custom databases and advanced SQL queries, tables, views, stored procedures, triggers, cursors, and permissions.

 

3.Develops and maintains Office of Institutional Data (OID) platforms for data products and systems. Works with Library and Technology Services (LTS) to determine changes in delineation between OID and LTS platforms. (10%)

*Administer system access for university systems identified as under the purview and administration of the Office of Institutional Data.
*Develop and maintain system integrations and components, including but not limited to application-to-application integrations, internal and external APIs, file transfer, EDI and SQL queries.
*Develop data/information quality metrics.
*Serve as the institutional research data manager and participate in the data governance and standards program of the university.

4.Remain informed and knowledgeable about the latest and most effective methods, techniques, and technologies related to data management. (10%)

*Seek opportunities for professional development to enhance data management skills.
*Participate in data management workshops, seminars, and industry conferences.
*Serve on various data and technology related committees, workgroups, and initiatives.

Job Qualifications

Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Five to eight years related work experience.

Experience in a higher education environment with functional knowledge of Banner preferred. Relational database (Oracle, MS Access, SQL Server, MySQL) experience preferred.

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position.
