Job Duties

The Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development at North Carolina State University has an assistantship available for an individual interested in obtaining a doctoral degree in education. The position is the Graduate Assistant for the Higher Education doctoral concentration in our department. We are interested in someone with an institutional research or assessment background.

Duties include:

  • Assisting with the recruitment process
  • Helping run new student orientation
  • Update Student Handbook and concentration website as needed
  • Assist with faculty research projects
The Graduate Assistant reports to the Coordinator of the concentration. The current Coordinator is Dr. Stephen Porter, who served as the Director of Institutional Research at Wesleyan University before becoming a faculty member.

Job Qualifications

Admission requirements are listed on the concentration’s webpage ( Note that a Master’s degree is preferred by not required. The ideal candidate will have experience with data analysis using R or Stata.

The position requires 20 hours of work per week. The stipend is $20,000 and includes the Graduate Student Support Plan, which covers tuition and health insurance (but not fees). The assistantship is available for four years.
