Job Duties
The Assistant Director of Analytics reports primarily to the Director of Institutional Research. The Assistant Director assumes responsibility for developing a roadmap of Tableau visualization dashboards in consultation with cross-functional groups of stakeholders across the institution. This key role also includes coordination with an external vendor who provides technical consultation to UNCW, including database modeling, and architectural relationships.
This is a supervisory role focused on synthesizing modeled data to inform institutional strategic decision making and planning. The selected candidate will be joining an enthusiastic, supportive team that is committed to serving students and the university community by delivering timely and relevant analysis and insight. Institutional Research and Analytics extracts, analyzes, visualizes, and describes a range of institutional and external data for a wide array of uses.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Design, develop, and deploy business intelligence dashboards
- Coordinate data analytics initiatives through data management and prescriptive data modeling
- Collaborate with campus partners to improve data quality and in the development of an Enterprise Data Warehouse comprising various campus data sources
- Conduct robust statistical analysis to inform institutional decision and strategic activities
- Manage UNCW data glossary with the integration of data fields and definitions to be used in data visualizations
Job Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Baccalaureate Degree with focus on analytics, computer science, or related field.
- Proficiency in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent.
- SQL skills and experience working with large datasets.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Experience conveying complex findings to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to supervise and manage professional staff.
- Experience in statistical analysis
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree with focus on analytics, computer science, or related field.
- Experience in management and analysis of data in higher education (institutional analysis, assessment, quality improvement, and student success).
- Advanced skills in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent
- Two or more years of experience in statistical analysis, including but not limited to predictive modeling in higher education.
- Experience building Tableau dashboard visualizations that support data-informed decision making.
