Job Duties
Position Summary
The Institutional Effectiveness (IE) team in the Office of the Provost is committed to providing the highest quality university information and support for decision-making, planning, improvement, and reporting needs for our university partners. The IE team is the central coordinating office for institutional effectiveness and reporting. It is comprised of three areas: data governance, institutional surveys and reporting, and decision support. The IE team leads processes and provide data, analysis, and insights to support the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of the university’s mission, vision, and strategic initiatives.The Senior Director for Institutional Effectiveness works in partnership with the Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness to provide leadership and expertise to advance the Provost’s and WashU’s mission and strategic priorities. The senior director supports and enhances the institution’s academic operations while advancing the quality, access and understanding of institutional data to support institutional decisions.
This position is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the IE strategic plan. This individual is responsible for the functional areas of institutional research, decision support, assessment, and operations.
The Senior Director is an advocate for data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement utilizing strong partnerships with Provost Office colleagues and faculty, staff, and administrators across the university. The Senior Director provides meaningful interpretation of institutional data and supports the translation of data into meaningful action by our partners.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Implement the Institutional Effectiveness strategic plan and evaluate the progress towards our strategic objectives. Partner with associate provost for IE to identify new strategic directions and ensure IE priorities align with goals of the provost and university leadership. Lead the operations of the IE Office and support the key functional areas of institutional research, assessment, operations, and decision support. Collaborate closely with the director of data governance to ensure alignment across all of IE and is an advisor to data governance team. Is a key member of the IE senior leadership team.
- Set IE strategy for talent development and help individuals reach their full potential. Identify and support areas of development for our team members.
- Develop in-role performance standards and ensure employee growth and success. Ensure performance standards are clearly communicated and monitored.
- Provide consultation on institutional effectiveness efforts and proactively make recommendations to guide strategic decision making. Support the execution of IE/IR data projects across the team. Provide guidance on utilization of findings to inform policies, programs, and program effectiveness as needed.
- Build and sustain partnerships with key leaders, schools, and administrative units across the university to understand the institutional needs and priorities. Identify new opportunities for collaboration and integration across the university. Lead the development of a data community of practice in collaboration with the IE team and other university partners. Represent the associate provost for institutional effectiveness at internal and external meetings, as needed and appropriate.
