Job Duties

Reporting to and supporting the Director of Assessment, Office of Assessment and Institutional Research, the Senior Assessment Coordinator will provide leadership for the assessment of student learning outcomes for the University’s academic programs and administrative units through training and support for assessment activities and technologies that assist with collecting and interpreting student learning or unit outcome data. 

This position will facilitate the development and implementation of effective assessment strategies, approaches, practices, and resources to support faculty and staff. In addition to academic program and support units throughout the University, the Senior Assessment Coordinator will provide support for ongoing assessment of the general education Core Curriculum offered through the Newcomb-Tulane College (NTC), including developing and managing an infrastructure for assessing student learning within the general education core curriculum. They will work with the NTC Associate Dean responsible for assessment of the core curriculum by being a resource for coordinating the assessment schedule, collection of data, and compilation of data and findings.

Specifics tasks:

  • In coordination with the Director of Assessment, responsible for maintaining compliance with the institutional accrediting body standards (SACSCOC) for the assessment of the administrative units, academic programs, and student support units.
  • Facilitate the institution-wide assessment of core curriculum outcomes, including but not limited to being a resource for assessment methodologies; developing and providing training on assessment including rubric-based scoring, data collection and data submission; and providing feedback to the faculty on the assessment process.
  • Support the presentation of results of the core curriculum assessment cycle by preparing an annual assessment report for internal and external review. 
  • Serve as a resource and provide consultation to academic and administrative units on effective assessment practices, including valid and reliable assessment methods, analysis and interpretation of data, reporting on results, and use of data for program and unit improvement.
  • Develop and provide direct support and training to faculty and staff on the use of assessment software.
  • Develop and maintain guidance materials and resources pertaining to assessment, including those related to data collection and review.
  • Ex officio member of the Newcomb-Tulane College Curriculum Committee.

Job Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in education, instructional design, research methods, program assessment, social sciences, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in assessment of student learning.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of research and best practices related to the assessment of student learning in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty in relation to the assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Experience with writing learning outcomes, mapping program learning outcomes to course outcomes, and developing rubrics.
  • Experience planning and conducting group and individual training and/or consultation sessions in a higher education setting.
  • Experience in communicating complex information effectively (written/verbal form) to a variety of audiences, including university and external constituents.
  • Effective communication skills, including diplomatic interpersonal communication with stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of data.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Earned Doctorate.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in assessment of learning in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge and experience with using a Learning Management System (LMS) for assessment.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Power BI software for the purpose of creating dashboards and analyzing data.
