Job Duties
The University of Michigan-Flint is seeking a collaborative leader to be the next Institutional Analysis Director.
The Director will direct and oversee participation in institutional analytics and compliance reporting; surveys and data requests from outside agencies, be responsible for state/federal reports, data warehouse, and data feeds; support accreditation, and provide data to support administrative, academic and operational decisions.
This position reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Responsibilities*
The ideal candidate will be strong in both technical and interpersonal skills to achieve the following duties:
Leadership
- Provide positive management of Institutional Analysis department staff
- Manage state and federal reporting requirements (such as IPEDS and HEIDI), institutional and national surveys, creation and maintenance of student census data, student opinion survey processing and analysis, faculty load analysis and reporting, and other processes requiring a robust understanding of underlying data schemas in Banner and university databases.
- Direct the University Strategic Planning environmental scanning/snapshot activities. Provide various analyses on Michigan's fifteen public universities and peer institutions.
- Direct and maintain academic program listings, including classification of programs into the Federal CIP coding structures
- Coordinate and direct the calculation of the institutional graduation and retention data
- Represent the University on the President's Council Analytical Studies Committee and other committees as assigned
Data Support
- Provide both operational and summary data support for appropriations process, program review, accreditation reporting and other needs
- Coordinate institutional responses to data requests from outside agencies and support data needs for Specialized and Regional Accreditations
- Facilitate the increased understanding and use of data within Academic Affairs including Program Review
- Interpret and communicate research design and statistical findings to a variety of audiences across the institution.
- Work with university leadership and colleges/departments to provide access to key institutional data metrics and operational data through dashboards, data warehouse, and other reporting systems.
- Provide university and enrollment trends data in support of Academic Affairs and Admissions
- Collaborate with Office of Admissions to maintain data entry standards for undergraduate student data
Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications*
- Master's degree in a field relevant to the job responsibilities
- 5 or more years of relevant progressively responsible work experience, including 3 years at a supervisory level
- Proven experience in and knowledge of institutional analysis or higher education reporting requirements, including reporting compliance
- 3 or more years of experience in supervising employees and managing departmental budgets
- Demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis including the capacity to manipulate large data sets
- Demonstrated competence in in designing and producing data-driven reports, and in descriptive and inferential statistical methods, social science research methods, basic survey design techniques, data mining and database management, and familiarity with procedures of statistical analysis and report writing
- Ability to mine and leverage data to guide and inform business decisions at the highest levels of the University, and assist in building data-informed institutional culture
