Job Duties

Job Summary
Manages and administers all data systems critical to business continuity of the office and is the primary liaison between UOPB and AITS. The Associate Director manages, coordinates, and facilitates design and deployment of Institutional Research (IR) solutions in support of the operations of the University Office for Planning and Budgeting (UOPB). The Associate Director researches and implements systems and tools to advance data analytics and reporting, providing timely and useful advice/strategies for the successful adoption of institutional reporting solutions meeting the needs of UOPB.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manages, leads, and participates in projects and project teams to improve institutional reporting solutions that benefit the University Office for Planning and Budgeting and System leadership. This includes researching new IR solutions that offer improved benefits to meet the anticipated needs of the office.
  2. Serve as primary liaison between UOPB staff and AITS for any system outages and issues and any UOPB staff IT concerns or issues. Coordinate server upgrade schedules with UOPB staff and with AITS and help test upgrades and code changes. Work with AITS to manage user login scripts, including mapped drives, home folders, and remote printers. Help maintain shared drive, including folder permissions and organization, in conjunction with AITS. Test software upgrades, code changes, security configurations, etc.
  3. Responsible for the administration of P&B Windows SAS application servers (production and development) in conjunction with AITS. Maintain up-to-date SAS software and manage SAS startup scripts, scheduled tasks, and ODBC connections. Manage related SAS UNIX server and file store in conjunction with AITS and assist campus offices with usage and access to files.
  4. Administer public and Shibboleth-secured IIS/ColdFusion web application servers (production and development) in conjunction with AITS. Manage existing ColdFusion code, write new ColdFusion code as needed, and coordinate upgrades/patches with AITS. Assist staff with UOPB website, including managing Google Analytics, helping with accessibility, and resolving issues as they arise.
  5. Create new databases for staff as needed, manage security, and troubleshoot query performance or other issues. Administer Microsoft SQL Server database instances in conjunction with AITS.
  6. Administer report development server for remote computing work of P&B staff in conjunction with AITS. Maintain analytics tools such as R, Python, Alteryx, Tableau, Tableau Prep, tabcmd, and Power BI on that server.
  7. Proactively ensure continued security of all UOPB systems, including SAS application servers, web servers, database servers, and report development server.
  8. Help staff develop and maintain data ETL processes in SAS, Tableau Prep, Alteryx, R, Python, and/or other tools as appropriate. Assist with automation and batch processing. Assist with ad hoc data requests, and write SQL as needed.
  9. Manage UOPB Tableau presence on AITS Tableau Server, including maintaining project and workbook-level permissions. Provide assistance with embedding Tableau workbooks on public and secure websites. Maintain tabcmd on local servers and assist in batch processing and automation of Tableau workbook publishing.
  10. Manage Active Directory groups across multiple forests.
  11. Help manage and maintain WordPress-based Intranet running on cPanel, including updating WordPress and related plugins as needed.
  12. Other duties as assigned appropriate for an Associate Director.

Job Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in a discipline related to the duties described above.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Three years of experience in institutional research, data analytics, data collection and management.
  2. Professional experience in the development of University or other public sector data requests.
Knowledge and Experience
  1. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with internal customers and other professionals.
  2. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member.
  3. Background in administration and helpdesk support with strong skills in troubleshooting and configuring multiple systems and application programs.
  4. Experience writing code in SAS/Python/R.
  5. Experience writing web application code.
  6. Experience with data pipelines/ETL processes and SQL code.
  7. Experience with Tableau or Power BI.
  8. Experience with MS Office suite.
  9. Experience performing advanced data analyses and optimizing these processes.
  10. Familiarity with Ellucian Banner.
  11. Experience with Tableau and Tableau Server.
  12. Experience with batch processes and automating and scheduling tasks.
  13. Experience with Active Directory, including OU and group management.
  14. Experience with Microsoft Azure.
