Job Duties

The position’s primary responsibilities include engaging in directed and self-guided research to find key insights

that may shape policy, providing stakeholders with actionable information, and helping to develop the analytics

needed to support and improve business decisions. This position helps manage and utilize complex datasets

stored in the IU warehouse. Uses these datasets to interpret the data, report conclusions drawn from their

analyses, and create visualizations that will be used in institutional research presentations, briefs, and reports

for the consumption of various IU constituencies (IU Board of Trustees, senior leadership, the provosts /

chancellors on the IU campuses, and state agencies).

Other responsibilities include: develop robust statistical data analytic models that are designed to address policy

and operations-based inquiries using data within the IU data warehouse and other external sources; help

present these insights to both technical and non-technical audiences; develop predictive analytics in areas

related to student enrollment and persistence, degree completion, workforce preparation, and other higher

education academic and administrative areas; design surveys, experiments, or opinion polls to collect data;

assist in producing and presenting data, visualizations, and analyses required by internal and external

constituencies; assist in the maintenance and integrity assurance of all data and visualizations on the UIRR

website; update and retrieve data from IU’s data warehouse as needed.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics or a quantitatively-oriented field and three years of work

experience in higher education, nonprofit, or public sector conducting data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications – Graduate degree mathematics or statistics preferred.

Strong technical expertise in data management. Knowledge of statistical analysis. Understanding of business

intelligence and relational database concepts. Experience with data mining and developing predictive analytical

models. Ability to conduct empirical research and answer complex questions using data mining or data

modeling techniques. Ability to independently identify and solve problems, primarily through statistical

programming and analysis. Ability to analyze complex topics, problem solve, synthesize, and communicate the

results clearly both orally and in writing to various audiences.
