Job Duties

JOB SUMMARY:
Coppin State University seeks an Institutional Research Programmer Analyst who will assist the Director of the Office of Institutional Research in conducting data analyses and producing internal and external reports. Central to the role of the incumbent will be data extraction and analyses. The unit is responsible for reporting to such agencies as the U.S. Department of Education, National Center on Education Statistics, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, the University System of Maryland, and the Maryland Higher Education Commission. The unit is also responsible for official reporting to accrediting bodies such as the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Data extracted and produced by the analyst will support reports associated with student learning outcomes assessment, academic program review, enrollment, finance, athletics, financial aid, and other units involved in strategic planning.


PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proficient in using SAS or other statistical software (i.e., SPSS, STATA, etc.) to do the following.
Perform statistical analyses using descriptive, inferential, and multivariate statistics.
Manage and maintain data files.
Design and prepare statistical charts, tables, and graphs.
Excellent problem-solving skills and overall ability to independently work through obstacles.
Solid understanding & knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Excellent organizational skills, very detail-oriented.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal & written.
Must be able to maintain data confidentiality and privacy.

Job Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field required. Master’s preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum four years of information technology experience in database development/administration, data warehousing, data analysis, database design, and programming or comparable combination of education and experience.
Experience with ERP applications such as PeopleSoft, SunGard Banner, or other higher education systems .
Experience with Analytics/ BI tools.
Demonstrated experience with creating technical specifications and documentation.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working in/with Institutional Research or similar department.
Familiarity with higher education reporting.
Professional experience in a college/higher education work environment.
Familiarity with college admissions, registration or financial aid terminology.
Development skills using PeopleSoft toolset, SQL, and PL/SQL, in particular SQR experience.
Exceptional SQL skills required.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work well independently and within a team.
Demonstrated superior communications skills (written and oral).
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects concurrently.
