Job Duties

Position Description

West Virginia State University is looking for a quality-oriented candidate for the position of Director of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Effectiveness. The Director position is an at-will, FLSA exempt, full-time, benefits-eligible position.


As an integral unit within the Office of the President, reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Director of Institutional Research Assessment and Effectiveness (IRAE) will lead the university with the institution’s self-knowledge and understanding of its competitive position by collecting, organizing, and interpreting institutional data for accurate reporting, analysis and effectiveness.


The Director of IRAE through data governance communicates a holistic approach to data management that includes data security and compliance and supervises all institutional research activities for institutional planning, policy formulation, and decision making; directs and manages the daily data collection process, data analysis, and research activities relative to institutional research, accreditation, compliance reporting, and leads the compilation of data and oversees the completion of regular internal reports and external reports required state and federal reports for policy maintenance and university activities. Successful candidates will be adept at fostering a culture of data-driven decision, mining, understanding across the full spectrum of data integration, transformation, management, security, access.and interpretation with the ability to communicate data standards, governance, and management across multiple constituencies.

Job Qualifications

  1. Masters in institutional research, education, behavioral science, statistics, big data, organizational management, quantitative methods, information systems, or related field required; doctorate preferred.
