Job Duties

Under the general direction of the Assistant Provost, the Senior Research Analyst (SRA) develops, maintains and improves procedures related to the production, processing and delivery of compliance and analytic reports related to students -i.e.- student enrollment, student success, student financial aid, etc. for internal and external constituents, including: Integrated Post-Secondary Data System, State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, Common Data Set, Petersons, College Board, US News and World reports and other ranking organization and others. The SRA will also assist in the design, development, and maintenance of dashboards for commonly requested and widely used student financial aid data on the University DataCommons – a web-based platform for visual analytics and data acquisition. The person in this position will keep abreast of ongoing developments and trends in higher education, institutional research and analytics landscapes.

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Data Analytics, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related area.
• Experience in data analytics and decision support in higher education setting, with specific knowledge of student related data and reporting processes.
• Experience supporting institutional research efforts in higher education with specific experience in database management
• Experience using and ability to program in SAS, or another comparable statistical analysis program, such as Python or R for decision support and reporting services.
• General knowledge of dashboard design, development, and maintenance.
• Ability to work with data and people from multiple sources/departments.
• Well-rounded portfolio of analytical & technical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Terminal degree in a related discipline.
• Understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and data lake in a cloud based open source environment.
• Python programming for visual analytic development.
• Experience working with student financial aid data and related reporting processes.
