Job Duties

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Works with students, faculty, and administrators to define information needs, define appropriate data collection methods, and provide advice in a service-oriented manner.

2. Undertakes research projects on a wide range of topics, determines appropriate methodologies, writes and presents reports.

3. Conducts or assists others in survey and research studies related to institutional needs.

4. Provides technical support for the collection, management, and dissemination of data and analysis in support of institutional decision making and institutional reporting, including strategic planning and accreditation requirements. Develops reports for ease of interpretation and analysis by a variety of audiences and users.

5. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational technical workshops/conferences; review professional publications; establish personal networks; benchmark state-of-the-art practices; participate professionally.

6. Conducts staff workshops and seminars focused on the understanding of data and the tools designed to obtain data.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, or social sciences with a research emphasis AND 3 years of related experience OR 7 years of related experience/training. Required

• Advanced degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, or social sciences with a research emphasis. Master's Degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience. Preferred

• Excellent logical reasoning and organizational skills.

• Knowledge of fundamental methodologies, statistics and higher education assessment processes.

• Ability to translate data into understandable language and visual displays.

• Ability and experience in effective communications, both in written reports and orally / presentations.

• Ability to schedule, structure, and facilitate meetings of faculty, staff and students with both technical and nontechnical skills.

• Ability to effectively use analytical software such as Microsoft Excel, Tableau, and other statistical analysis tools such as R, Stata, or SPSS.

• Familiarity with post-secondary education system.

• Experience in an institutional research office or similar experience at a college or university.

• Experience with Qualtrics survey software across design, construction, validation, and analysis preferred.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Natural Sciences (SNS) and the Director of Institutional Research for the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support (IRDS), the analyst leads the production of administrative reports and analysis to support the information needs of SNS. The position will help with analysis of student life cycle, from recruitment and admissions through graduation and post-degree placement. Typical projects will include application and admission yields, student success metrics (retention and completion rates/grade correlations for sequenced courses), curriculum analysis (student demand/course scheduling/classroom availability) and ad hoc data requests from school stakeholders.
