Description:

Coastline College is soliciting applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position for Data Analytics in the Computer Information Systems program to begin Fall 2020. The primary teaching responsibility will be in the area of Data Analytics.  Applicants should also be able to teach a variety of computer-based core and elective courses within the Business and Computer Information Systems programs.

Teaching responsibilities may include evening, online, and/or weekend classes. Courses in the Business and Computer Information Systems program are primarily taught at the Garden Grove campus. Travel between campuses in Orange County, CA (Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Newport Beach, and Westminster) will sometimes be required. Demonstrated online teaching experience is preferred, but not required. In addition to teaching, job requirements include service to the institution, development of university partnerships, development of industry and government partnerships, enhancement of workforce development and career pathways, and play an active role in outreach to K-12 schools.

Coastline College serves approximately 26,000 students, awards over 3,000 degrees and certificates, and transfers over 2,000 students to four-year institutions annually. Job Qualifications

Qualifications and Physical Demands

1. Must meet one of the following qualifications for Business and Computer Information Services under (a) through (d) AND (e):

a. Valid California Community College instructor credential, appropriate to the subject, per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990);

b. Master's degree in business, business management, business administration, accountancy, finance, marketing or business education, or

c. Bachelor's in any of the above and Master's in economics, personnel management, public administration, or JD or LL.B. degree, or

d. Bachelor's in economics with a business emphasis and Master's in economics, personnel management, public administration, or JD or LL.B. degree

AND

e. Two years of professional experience in computer information services in the area of data analytics or cybersecurity.

Or, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above.  Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials.

2. Evidence of a sensitivity to, understanding of, and the ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Two years teaching experience in Computer Information Systems or Business at the College level, including Community College or University level.

• Two years related work experience in business or computer information systems related fields.

• Demonstrable evidence in teaching and developing courses and acting as an advisor for students.

• Strong commitment to quality teaching, motivation of students, student success, and academic excellence. Ability to design curriculum to address a wide range of learning levels and alternative learning activities that expand learning outcomes.

• Understanding of current and emerging instructional delivery technologies and ability to integrate those technologies into the learning process.

• Evidence of continuing preparation in the discipline (within the last five years).

• Experience in blending student success strategies, such as goal-setting, time-management, problem solving, study methods, and research skills into their own curriculum. Candidates who have not had such experience will be expected to gain these competencies during their first year, so that they are able to incorporate these strategies in their own courses.

• Demonstrable experience in onsite, distance, and online instruction and the ability to adjust teaching strategies to differing class sizes (30 to 100 students).

• Demonstrable evidence of intellectual curiosity and professional growth, and development.

• Ability and willingness to interface effectively with members of the business community to ensure that our Business and Computer Information Systems programs are up-to-date and responsive to community needs.
