Job Duties

Relay Graduate School of Education seeks a Research and Reporting Manager to ensure that our new student information system (SIS) meets our reporting needs.  Reporting to the Senior Director of Research and Data, the Research and Reporting Manager will collaborate closely with colleagues at all levels of the institution to drive the SIS implementation forward.  Specifically, the Research and Reporting Manager will participate deeply and directly in all implementation, configuration, testing, and training activities related to SIS Reporting, working closely with others within and across their team to ensure Relay’s new SIS launches on time and meets the specific reporting needs and requirements of Relay stakeholders.  


The role will require a strong blend of people skills (necessary to understand, refine, and prioritize user requirements) and technical skills (necessary to configure the SIS and create reports that meet those requirements).  At Relay, we believe that data-driven decision-making is essential to helping our institution meet its goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Building Reports

  • Build custom reports using the SIS vendor’s (Campus Management) provided tools
  • Create custom data visualizations and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI
  • Query the underlying data model using SQL
  • Create and manage roles and permissions for specific reports and dashboards
  • Collaborate with broader research team to design and build dashboards and reports that include data from additional IT systems 

Configuration and Testing

  • Own reporting-related configurations of the SIS
  • Test and validate all configurations, reports, and dashboards

Requirement Gathering

  • Learn as much as possible about the new SIS’s capabilities and features (and how to configure them) via direct training from the vendor and independent research
  • Learn as much as possible about Relay’s reporting needs (and their relative importance) by engaging stakeholders across the organization
  • Research solutions to ad hoc and novel issues as needed


  • Collect input and feedback from a diverse set of stakeholders at Relay
  • Generate consensus across competing organizational priorities
  • Prioritize key workflows and reporting needs
  • Train users across Relay to understand and leverage all data reports and visualizations

Project Management and Communication

  • Perform key project tasks with minimum supervision
  • Articulate project risks, including workload and timeline concerns
  • Escalate potential policy and process changes
  • Create documentation and training materials for all reporting items
  • Share reports with broader Relay community, including Relay’s leadership team

Job Qualifications

First and foremost, the Research and Reporting Manager must share the team’s commitment to improving Relay’s systems in service of phenomenal teacher and instructional leader preparation.

Candidates for the position should meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in information technology, computer science, database management, data science, finance, business administration, statistics, economics, public policy, mathematics, the social sciences, or equivalent work experience; Master’s degree welcome
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand new technology processes and platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively share technical knowledge with others
  • Experience producing dynamic data visualizations and reports using complex datasets, especially using PowerBI (but alternatively Tableau, R shiny, D3.js, etc.)
  • Experience using relational databases, including writing queries in SQL and building dynamic reports
  • 1-3+ years experience working with an SIS, ERP, or CRM preferred
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as effectively within a team  
  • Passion for building solutions that enable teams to work more effectively
  • Proficient project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience managing competing priorities, independently and as part of a team 
  • Ability to work efficiently and intensely in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Alignment with Relay’s mission
  • Higher education experience preferred
