Job Duties

The Department of Academic Quality at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) Institutional Research and Assessment Analyst II works on mission critical academic research projects, and will be expected to help in conceptualizing, implementing, and completing a variety of research projects serving various academic units. These projects will cover a range of issues in higher education and distance learning in relation to student retention, success, learning; course design, instructional strategies; and the application of effective teaching and learning principles to onsite and online classrooms.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Retrieve and extract data from primary and secondary data sources
  • Prepare data for data analysis using statistical and data management software
  • Develop data reports in response to internal and external information requests
  • Organize and manage data files, reports, and other digital assets
  • Develop presentations and other reports
  • Plan, develop, implement and maintain databases and other systems in order to facilitate quick access to, retrieval, and manipulation of data
  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative analytical methods and tools to complete studies and projects that support institutional decision-making
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify requirements for analysis and reporting
  • Identify sources of data and information including both internal and external resources
  • Develop and deliver surveys and other data collection instruments
  • Make recommendations based on interpretation of data analysis

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Four (4) or more years of experience working with higher education data or conducting research in higher education
  • Four (4) or more years of experience with statistical software (SPSS, SAS, or R), plus in-depth knowledge of statistical analyses, and broader knowledge of research design
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a team, taking direction from multiple staff members
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated experience presenting analysis to a variety of audiences
  • Experience with conducting statistical analyses, reporting results, and experience working with large data sets, cleaning data and preparing datasets for analysis
