Job Duties

The Director of Institutional Research is the subject matter expert for the planning and delivery of the Institutional Research initiatives that support compliance endeavors for Tennessee State University. The Director will collaborate with various constituents across the University, to ensure that we adhere to state and federal compliance requirements.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Build analytic capacity & data governance. Works with the Managing Executive Director to advance the University's data management and governance structure and culture (e.g., establish standards, policies, procedures, compliance, and prioritization). Develops and improves existing processes and make suggestions to streamline through the automation and documentation of tasks. Oversees, extracts, and maintains data files. Ensures data and information are accurate and available in a timely fashion. Collaborates with stakeholders in the development of a standardized approach for reporting University metrics, ensuring that processes are documented. Supports enterprise-wide, integrated data governance program designed to optimize the University's use of data and information assets. Oversee and focus on addressing both the risk and value sides of the University's data and information assets. Assists with the implementation of University-wide initiatives that encompass the use and storage of institutional and student data. Maintains fluency with trends in higher education regarding data collection, analysis, and reporting practices to keep the University current with evolving national practices.

Reporting and Compliance:
Maintains knowledge of trends and best practices related to Institutional Research methodologies for reporting and devise strategies to integrate into our processes. Collaborates with the team to ensure timely reporting to maintain compliance with various accrediting bodies, government agencies, and other external bodies (e.g., THEC, IPEDS, CDS, SACSCOC, etc.). Oversees design, development, and implementation of internal and external surveys. Develops various dashboards and visualizations to monitor key performance indicators for various departments. Determines the data needs of departments and programs through open communication and collaboration. Provides support to the Managing Executive Director in the coordination with executive offices to provide periodic reports to the Provost, Board of Trustees, or other committees. Collaborates with members of the Institutional Research department to produce an annual University fact book and supplemental ad hoc reports.

Management & Other Responsibilities:
Supervises Technical/Data Analyst. Develops and builds a strong partnership network among Deans, Directors and other stakeholders, as well as the assessment coordinators. Maintains membership on various University committees as discussed with Managing Executive Director. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
Master's degree in a related field {social science, statistics, data science, or another applied analytics
field).
Minimum of five ( 5) years of experience in Institutional Research, business intelligence,
analytics, data analysis, program evaluation, or related research practices.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in higher education.
Demonstrated ability to translate findings into actionable recommendations and to communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
Experience with quantitative and qualitative research techniques.

Preferred qualifications:
Doctorate degree
Experience in academic and administrative assessment process.
