Job Duties

Director of Institutional Research - Birmingham-Southern College is seeking a Director of Institutional Research effective December 1st.  The Director reports to the President and supports the President and Senior Staff by providing direction and leadership for initiatives related to institutional effectiveness and for implementation of the College’s strategic plan. This position develops and generates data to inform systematic, broad-based, and interrelated planning processes for the educational, administrative and support activities of the College; engages in research to help the president and senior staff, as well as all administrative and academic departments of the College. The Director will also work with administrative units, academic programs, and general education assessment representatives in support of student learning outcomes assessment, general education assessment, and program evaluation. The Director of Institutional Research oversees accreditation initiatives to support the mission of the College and serves as liaison to SACS-COC.

Job Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have a master’s degree (Ph.D or Ed.D preferred) in higher education, data analytics, the social sciences, statistics, or a related field, and a minimum of five years of experience in a higher education setting. Candidates must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of research methods and advanced statistical analysis techniques, as well as statistical analysis software; be experienced in identifying, generating and using data for problem solving and decision-making; demonstrate excellent communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to engage successfully in college-wide strategic decision-making and planning processes; have highly developed organizational and leadership skills; and have experience in prioritizing multiple and varied projects and initiatives. In addition, experience with an integrated administrative software system and familiarity with comprehensive assessment tools, including national surveys related to student experience are desired.  Experience successfully navigating a 10-year accreditation process and experience with the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BSSE) is preferred.
